Typography 8 - College

Okay, so this description will be kinda long. I started this on the night before CalSO (Cal Berkeley Student Orientation), I had just gotten to San Francisco and had been pretty nervous about it all. I mean, well, it's college. Quite a big leap from high school, and a four hundred mile one at that. Anyways, I started this, but after CalSO it all seems kind of irrelevant; now I'm pretty confident and excited about college. I'm still sad that childhood is basically over, and that I'll never be able to live these years over again, but such is life. We are mortal, so we might as well make the best of it. Anyways, I think the main focus comes from reading the outlines, as the inner castle portion is jumbled and confusing, just the feelings I was trying to portray.

I guess I was just trying to show my inner fear and hesitation at the time when I started it. Do we take the step and climb into the cold walls of the real world? College is just a drawbridge to a whole new place, one where we aren't sheltered and protected like we'd want to be. I even moved the dot on the 'i' and tilted it so that the full weight would be felt, and left the castle monochromatic. Ahhhh, but enough of that, on to the content.

The full version is located here. I was thinking about making a print of it, which is why its almost 8x10" @ 300dpi. We'll see, though.

The main outline reads like this, though I'd rather viewers take the time to read it from the actual work rather than this:

"Welcome. Well, this might seem a little out of place, but... well... do you... do you ever think about the future? of what's next and where this road leads? to think, that we've travelled this far just to be told to start all over again, to wipe the slate, i guess
i mean, its quite exhilirating, when you stop and think about it, there's a whole new life ahead of us and we are the only ones that can live it. doesnt that amaze you? but i have my doubts, of course, i mean really, who wouldn't? its... its just so scary, you know, to think... what is beyond this bubble? i know its not the same out there, but is it so wrong to dream? i dont want this all to come to an end, but some times can be so hard, and... sometimes i look around and wonder, ponder and ponder and think what will it feel like? to be alone and oh, the emptiness its all around us now
